Stonebwoy makes history as the first Ghanaian artiste to headline a concert at OVO Arena Wembley
Media personality DJ Slim has explained why curtains were used to cover portions of the auditorium during Ghanaian musician Stonebwoy’s BHIM Festival concert at the iconic OVO Arena Wembley in London.
Speaking on ‘Street Is Watching’, DJ Slim read from a Google search on why curtains are used in arenas and explained that they are often used for capacity adjustment.
According to him, when an event sells a smaller number of tickets than the venue’s full capacity or organisers expect a specific crowd size, curtains can be used to block off the upper tiers or certain sections of the auditorium.
He explained that this helps make the venue appear more intimate rather than leaving large sections of the arena empty and cavernous.
DJ Slim also noted that curtains are used for acoustic purposes, particularly at large venues where sound can echo and reverberate.
“It’s for acoustics. Large, empty rooms, especially the OVO, cause echoes. So, for acoustic purposes, heavy fabric curtains absorb sound waves and reduce reverberation, which helps make music and vocals sound much clearer,” he read.

He argued that the decision to cover the upper sections of the auditorium was intended to improve the overall experience for Stonebwoy’s audience.
According to DJ Slim, the section was not made available to the public from the moment tickets went on sale, suggesting that the organisers had planned the arrangement to ensure that attendees could enjoy Stonebwoy’s performance with minimal echo and better sound quality.
He further explained that curtains can also serve a purpose when it comes to lighting and production, particularly when dark fabrics are used to create a better visual environment for the performer.
“For lighting reasons. Anyone who is into production knows this thing. There is a reason why they use dark fabrics, it causes infinity and makes the subject in focus much clearer for fans who are sometimes several meters away,” he added.
Stonebwoy made history in London after becoming the first Ghanaian artiste to headline a concert at the OVO Arena Wembley.
The performance took place on August 15, 2026, as the award-winning artiste brought his annual BHIM Festival to the United Kingdom for the first time.
The 12,500-capacity venue was transformed into a celebration of Ghanaian music, culture and heritage.
Several Ghanaian and African artistes also came out to support Stonebwoy, including Kwabena Kwabena, Tiwa Savage, Mr P, Ofori Amponsah, DopeNation, Juma Jux and Samini, among others.
