Michael Afranie explains why he wasn't present at Selassie Ibrahim’s REFFA float
Ghanaian Kumawood actor Michael Afranie has explained his absence from Selassie Ibrahim’s REFFA festival float in Kumasi, stating that he was not invited to participate.
In a video shared on social media on August 19, 2026, Michael Afranie explained that he saw no reason to attend the event without an invitation, even though it was organised in Kumasi.
“I didn’t join the float because they didn’t invite me. The fact that they organised it in Kumasi doesn’t mean that I was supposed to go uninvited,” he said.
According to the actor, the decision to bring personalities from Accra to Kumasi for the festival suggests that arrangements were deliberately made for their participation, including flights and accommodation.
“When they came from Accra, didn’t they come by flight? Didn’t they sleep in luxurious hotels? The actors who showed up from Accra, were they not paid? Why would they book flights to Kumasi for this without being paid?” he questioned.

Michael Afranie, however, clarified that his concerns should not be interpreted as opposition to the REFFA festival itself.
“I don’t have any problem with her REFFA festival because I feel it projects the industry and makes the works keep growing,” he stated.
His main concern, he explained, was what he described as unfair treatment of actors based in Kumasi compared with those in Accra.
“But the treatment that is between Accra and Kumasi is very bad. We are all stars, but she chose to invite some and forget us,” he added.
