Pastor John Wesley Amenuku has come under heavy criticism on social media following his recent comments describing traditional weddings as “barbaric.”
In a viral video, the preacher urged Christians to refrain from engaging in traditional marriage ceremonies, arguing that such practices are outdated and not aligned with the teachings of Christ.
Following his comments, some netizens have taken to social media to lambast the preacher.
Netizens who are displeased with the pastor’s remarks have questioned him about the church's role in one’s family.
According to some netizens, the church has no right to dictate how an individual should tie the knot, adding that pastors and churches should focus on their primary mandate: spreading the word of God.
Some went further, raining insults on the preacher and labelling his comments as “useless.”

The chronicle of Jesus attending a marriage ceremony in Cana where wine run out and he had to save the scene, that ceremony was according to which culture?Rooted in Christianity?

I detest these dumb attempts from preacher men to cancel every single culture we have! Please! https://t.co/x1Mwyikfu9
I repeat, marriage, funeral, and naming ceremony got nothing to do with the church. The church should focus on their mission and leave those alone.

Those things are family matters left for the cultural practices of the believer. And for marriage, I will argue that if you don't…
The fact that he's saying this confidently confirms that he shouldn't be a pastor at all. He lacks understanding of our cultural connections. Respectfully, he should shut it.
