'You smoke and drink, did I show you how to do it' - Walugu Lana challenges host

Tamale-based artiste Walugu Lana has questioned TV host DJ Bat’s stance on his influence on society after the presenter asked if he considers himself a bad influence.

During an interview, DJ Bat asked Walugu Lana whether he believes he has become a negative influence on society. The musician, however, rejected the suggestion and described himself as a source of motivation.

“I’m not a bad influence to society. I’m a motivator to society. Ask me why I’m a motivator to society,” Walugu Lana responded.

The artiste then turned the question back on the host, questioning whether he (Walugu Lana), was responsible for introducing him to behaviours such as smoking and drinking.

“You smoke weed. Did I show you how to smoke weed?” Walugu asked.

When the host questioned where he got that information from, the musician followed up by saying, “You drink alcohol. Did I show you how to drink alcohol?”

Walugu Lana’s response sparked a heated exchange between the two, as the conversation shifted to the responsibility of public figures and whether entertainers should be mindful of the examples they set for society.

The host argued that although people make their own personal choices, public figures are viewed differently because of their influence and visibility.

“I’m an adult. It’s different. It’s different from bringing it outside. You see that you are a role model. You can do it in your room a million times,” the host said.

In reaction, Walugu Lana accused the host of presenting a message of morality while allegedly engaging in behaviours he was questioning.

“Don’t come and sit on TV and preach virtues and practice vices,” the artiste stated.

He further explained his statement, telling the host to understand the meaning behind his words.

“Break down the meaning of what I just told you. Don’t sit on TV, preach virtues and practice vices,” he added.

The conversation has since generated reactions from viewers and social media users, with many debating the host’s approach to the question and Walugu Lana’s response during the discussion.
