Efia Odo speaks on why she stopped ‘constantly attacking’ politicians publicly

Ghanaian actress, musician and socialite Efia Odo has stated that she has grown to realise that constantly attacking politicians publicly does not always create the change she wants to see in society.

She made the statement on X while responding to a netizen who questioned why she does not criticise the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government over bad governance, as she did with the previous administration.

According to Efia Odo, her approach to politics and public accountability has evolved over time. She added that she no longer wants to be used as a pawn in political battles or feel compelled to attack one political party to prove that she is holding leaders accountable.

“Because I’ve grown. I’ve realized that constantly attacking politicians publicly doesn’t always create the change I want to see. With age comes maturity, and my approach has evolved. I no longer want to be used as a pawn in political battles or feel like I have to attack one party to prove I’m holding leaders accountable,” she wrote.

During the previous administration, Efia Odo was vocal in her criticism of the government and frequently used her social media platforms to speak out on issues of governance.

However, her mother, Adombi Serwaa, revealed earlier this year that she received calls and threats over her daughter’s involvement in political activities.

Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz, Adombi Serwaa said she was living outside Ghana at the time but became worried about her daughter’s safety after receiving calls from people who asked her to advise Efia Odo to stay away from politics.

“I wasn’t here in Ghana, but I was hearing everything. Elders were also calling me. I was unable to sleep well out of fear. I feared for my daughter’s life. A lot of people threatened me that if I didn’t advise my daughter to stop her involvement in politics, something would happen to her,” she said.

Adombi Serwaa therefore spoke to her daughter and cautioned her against getting involved in political activities, explaining that she feared losing her.

“I told Efia Odo I didn’t want to lose her, so if she loves me, she shouldn’t involve herself. I would allow her to do anything she wants but not politics,” she stated.
