'Who approved this?' - Kofi Kinaata calls out FDA over 'cigarette lollipops'

Ghanaian musician, Kofi Kinaata, has added his voice to growing public outrage after images surfaced online showing cigarette-shaped lollipops being sold on the Ghanaian market.

The award-winning songwriter reacted to a viral post sighted by GhanaWeb on August 29, 2026, raising concern over the "Cigarette Rod Lollipop," a confectionery designed to resemble actual cigarettes.

Reposting the video on social media platform X, Kinaata tagged the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) Ghana to demand immediate accountability.

"Azaay ..!! This is seriously concerning. Who approved this? @fdaghana," Kinaata posted.

The product packaging, which claims the candy offers a "smoke shape" that "hides sweetness," has raised alarm among parents and health advocates who argue that the item desensitizes young children to tobacco use and smoking behavior.

Various citizens and prominent figures online have called on the FDA to investigate how the product entered local circulation, conduct market sweeps, and enforce strict regulatory sanctions against the distributors.
