DopeNation speaks on their experimental music journey

Ghanaian music duo DopeNation has described their journey in the music industry as experimental, saying they believe they were created to break boundaries and shape the industry.

Speaking in an interview on 3Music TV on September 11, 2026, the duo said their approach to music has been driven by their desire to explore different ideas and take advantage of opportunities.

“Our music journey has been experimental. I feel if I don’t get this chance now, I wouldn’t get it anywhere. As artistes, we have to experiment; I feel I’ve been created to break boundaries. I wasn’t created for the industry; I was created to shape the industry,” they said.

DopeNation, however, noted that one of the major challenges they face is ensuring that an idea comes out exactly as they initially imagined it.

“Our major challenge could be the fact that an idea does not remain the same way it’s supposed to be when you have it in your mind. By the time you’re done with an idea and it’s supposed to come out as the finished product, there are always unforeseen circumstances,” they explained.

According to the duo, cultural, religious and financial factors can sometimes affect the execution and promotion of an idea.

“If we make a song, we won’t be able to play it for some period of time because of a ban. Sometimes you can’t play shows at some places because of the amenities,” they stated.

They shared that such challenges can gradually affect the original vision behind a project.

“By the time you realise, every financial, cultural and religious factor makes the idea very thin, and when you want to lay it out, it doesn’t come out like how you had the idea,” they added.
