‘I just smile’ - Black Sherif reflects on listening to old projects

More than a year after releasing his sophomore album Iron Boy, Black Sherif has opened up about revisiting his music, revealing that listening to his past projects leaves him smiling.

Speaking in an interview on Citi FM, the award-winning musician disclosed that he rarely listens to songs he has already released, explaining that his focus quickly shifts to creating new music.

According to him, the only Black Sherif songs that make it onto his personal playlist are unreleased tracks he is currently working on.

“I don’t know, because I have a lot I’m working on; I move to the next one. So any Black Sherif song I listen to in my car by myself is unreleased,” he said.

However, after releasing his Sun Sherif EP, the rapper decided to revisit his entire catalogue, starting from The Villain I Never Was through to the final track on Sun Sherif.

“I started listening from The Villain I Never Was to the last song on Sun Sherif. I just dey there with a smile,” he said, describing the experience as a rewarding moment of reflection.

The “Kwaku the Traveller” hitmaker also revealed that his favourite songs from across his various projects have changed over time, depending on the stage of his career and his experiences performing the albums

According to Black Sherif, Pray For The Youngsta was initially his favourite song from the Villain I Never Was album when it was released, but that changed after he began performing the project and later evolved again.

“When I dropped The Villain I Never Was, it was Pray For The Youngsta. Then when I started performing, it became Oil In My Head, and some years along the line it became Toxic Love City,” he said.
