'Get a lawyer before signing contracts' – Mr Drew to upcoming artistes

Ghanaian musician and dancer Mr Drew has advised upcoming artistes to seek legal assistance before signing contracts, particularly when entering agreements within the music industry.

Speaking in an interview on Onua FM on September 24, 2026, Mr Drew said having a lawyer review contractual documents can help young artistes understand the terms they are agreeing to and avoid unnecessary stress in the future.

“To the upcoming artistes, as for the paperwork, just get a lawyer. If you don’t get a lawyer, you will be stressed,” he said.

According to the musician, artistes do not necessarily need to hire an expensive specialist to review their contracts.

“Normally, it’s not even about an expensive lawyer. Any lawyer can still go through your contract regardless of him or her being an entertainment lawyer or legal person,” he explained.

He noted that a lawyer can help an artiste understand the terms and conditions of an agreement and provide guidance on the obligations that come with signing it.

Mr Drew therefore encouraged upcoming musicians to make legal consultation an important part of their careers before committing themselves to contractual agreements.

“They can better still read the terms and conditions and give you a fair idea of what you’re getting yourself into and what you have to do,” he added.
