Nigerian comedian Parrot Mouth has shared his views on why Ghana’s entertainment industry struggles to gain international recognition as compared to Nigeria.

In an interview with GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie on September 26, 2026, he argued that Ghanaians are often reluctant to support their own, describing them as “selfish” and prone to the “pull him down” syndrome.

“Ghanaians always want to bring their own down. Ghanaians don’t like it when their own rises. Ghanaians are selfish; if it is not me, it is not you. They have that pulling-down syndrome, which I feel is not helping,” he said.

Parrot Mouth further noted that while divisions exist among Nigerian artistes and their fan bases, Nigerians still unite to project their artistes on international stages.

According to him, Ghanaians can adopt similar strategies to promote their artistes on global stages rather than always trying to push negativity.

“The only problem here is, if Nigerians are doing their show, all the Nigerians come together to push it. But when the Ghanaians are doing their show, see, they have this: I am for A, I am for B. So A will say, ‘Don’t go for B,’ so they want to sabotage the show.

“But if one person rises, Ghana rises. Nigeria, we know that we compete with Ghana when it comes to entertainment. So we will tell you that forget our beefs – Davido and Wizkid, Burna Boy, all of us will come together to support one artiste. I think it’s high time we focus on the name Ghana rather than the name of one artiste,” he added.
