Black Sherif amd Akon are global musicians
American-Senegalese musician Akon has heaped praises on Ghanaian musician Black Sherif, describing him as one of his favourite artistes on the African continent.
Akon said Black Sherif’s music reminds him of his own journey when he first broke onto the global scene.
Speaking in an interview on BBC Radio, Akon said Black Sherif’s raw delivery and emotional storytelling immediately caught his attention the first time he heard his music while in New York.
“I’m a huge fan of Black Sherif right now. I think maybe because he just reminded me of the energy of myself when I came out,” Akon said.
Recalling the moment he discovered the Ghanaian musician, Akon revealed that a friend introduced him to Black Sherif’s music, leaving him instantly captivated.

“I was in New York City when a friend of mine named Baco from Mali played me. I said, ‘Yeah, who the F is that?’” He said.
According to the ‘Lonely’ hitmaker, what stood out most was the authenticity in Black Sherif’s voice, saying listeners can hear the hardships and determination behind every lyric.
“You can hear in his voice; you can feel the pain. You feel the struggle. You hear the challenges, but you can just hear a ghetto kid just wanting to get out. It’s just the way he says it. You know it’s real. It’s nothing that’s fabricated,” he stated.
Akon added that having experienced a similar background himself made it easy to connect with Black Sherif’s music on a deeper level.
“You feel that, especially if you’ve been there. You understand? And he’s just one of those. I was like, ‘Wow,' he added
