Adjoa Pee is a veteran Ghanaian actress
Veteran actress Adjoa Pee, born Helena Maame Adwoa Petreba Pieterson, has disclosed that after almost four decades in the movie industry, she does not even own a car.
According to the veteran actress, she currently relies on an auto-rickshaw, popularly known as a ‘pragya’ in Ghana, for transportation.
She recounted a frightening incident when she was travelling in a Pragya with her child during a rainy day. According to her, the ‘pragya’ fell over, causing both of them to fall into muddy water.
The veteran actress, who spoke about some of the challenges she has faced throughout her acting career, pleaded with anyone who could assist her with a car.
“I am approaching 40 years in the acting industry, yet I don’t even own a car. In October, I will turn 65, and I still don’t have a car. Somebody should buy me a car. I use a ‘Pragya’, and the last time I was in one, it threw me out. I was with my child, and it was raining when the Pragya fell over, and we both ended up in the muddy water,” she said.
Despite the challenges she has encountered in the industry, Adjoa Pee said she does not regret becoming an actress because acting has always been her passion.
Adjoa Pee alleges Mr Beautiful ‘pocketed’ part of Mahama’s money for her medical bills
She, however, noted that the circumstances surrounding the profession in Ghana have made the journey painful for her.
According to her, the reception she receives from fans whenever she steps out gives her some comfort despite the difficulties she has experienced.
Adjoa Pee also recalled how little actors and actresses were paid during the early years of their careers, noting that the amounts offered by some producers were sometimes so small that collecting the money could leave one feeling sorry for themselves.
According to her, after receiving such payments, an actor could become so disappointed that they would not even be interested in counting the money.
In the same conversation, Adjoa Pee spoke about the support President John Dramani Mahama has been providing to veteran Ghanaian entertainers.
She said President Mahama has taken it upon himself to assist veteran entertainers but said she had not received such support and also alleged that people close to the President prevented her from meeting him personally.
The veteran actress, however, praised Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang for being accessible to her, saying the Vice President even returns her calls whenever she misses them.
“They do not allow me to meet the President. I don’t know what I have done, but when the Vice President misses my call, she returns it,” she said.
