Ghanaian socialite Efia Odo has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing both political parties of failing Ghanaians in the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

In a post shared on her X page, Efia Odo said there is no way Ghana’s leaders are unaware of the devastating impact galamsey continues to have on the country’s water bodies.

According to her, successive governments have consistently campaigned on promises to tackle the menace but have failed to match their pledges with decisive action after assuming office.

“There’s no way our leaders are blind to the damage galamsey is doing to our water bodies. In my view, both the NDC and NPP have failed us for years,” she wrote.

She argued that although politicians repeatedly assure Ghanaians that they will end illegal mining during election campaigns, the urgency to address the crisis appears to disappear once they are elected into office.

“They campaign on promises to fight galamsey, yet once in power, the urgency disappears. If they can see the destruction, why does their response never match the scale of the crisis?” she questioned.
