‘It’s most dangerous when empty people become famous’ - Jeffrey Nortey

Ghanaian actor and comedian Jeffrey Nortey has argued that the rise of “empty people” to fame can have dangerous consequences due to the impact their words can have on others.

Speaking on the ‘TalkNoDeyCookRice’ podcast, Jeffrey Nortey said having a platform comes with a responsibility, and some people who consume public content may be influenced by messages that are misleading or harmful.

“The most dangerous thing is when empty people become famous. When you get the platform, what you say is very important,” he said.

The actor explained that while people may dismiss the opinions of certain personalities, there are others who may take their words seriously and be affected by them.

“You might think Mister A sits here and Mister A says something, and you say, ‘Oh, what Mister A said, don’t mind him. Nobody will listen to him.’ There are weaker souls watching us, and whatever you say, it will land in their spirit,” Jeffrey Nortey said.

Buttressing his point, Jeffrey Nortey said people can be influenced by what they repeatedly hear, even when the information being shared is inaccurate.

“There are people who sit in this chair and say that Adam had a friend in the garden before Eve came. It’s very silly, right? Like it’s a big fallacy, but there are people who watch him and are confused,” he said.

He further stressed that words from influential people can shape beliefs

“Faith comes by hearing, so what you hear can actually destroy you,” he said, questioning the impact of what people expose themselves to.
