Mama Fiawotoe I, sister of the late actress and media personality Beverly Afaglo, has revealed that the actress lived for only about a month and a half after doctors told her she had two months to live following a battle with cancer.

Speaking in an interview with media personality Gifty Anti, Mama Fiawotoe recounted how the family struggled to save Beverly after doctors indicated that there was little they could do to stop the cancer from spreading.

According to her, Beverly was given two months to spend time with her children, put her documents in order, and attend to other personal matters.

However, the actress lived for only about six weeks after receiving the news.

“From the time she was given the news, she was given two months to come and see her children, put her documents in order and do everything else. But I think she lived for about a month and a half before she died,” she disclosed.

Recounting the difficult period, her sister said Beverly remained strong and refused to accept that she was going to die, even when doctors told her that her condition had become critical.

“She kept saying, ‘I’m not going to die. Stop asking me those questions. I’m not going to die,’” she recalled.

Mama Fiawotoe explained that she had repeatedly asked Beverly what she wanted to do with her businesses and how she wanted the family to care for her children if she died.

However, the actress continued to insist that she would recover and did not want her sister to ask such questions.

Recounting how the actress discovered she had cancer, Mama Fiawotoe said Beverly first noticed a lump under her arm, which she initially suspected might be a boil.

However, because Beverly knew her body well, she decided to seek medical attention rather than treat the lump at home.

At the hospital, a doctor prescribed Augmentin and asked her to take the medication for a week before returning for a review.

When she returned, the lump had continued to grow, prompting the doctor to refer her to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for further examination.

A biopsy was subsequently conducted, and the sample was sent to the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research to determine whether the lump was cancerous.

The results confirmed that Beverly had cancer, after which she began seeking treatment.

Her sister explained that the doctors recommended radiation therapy to shrink the tumour before surgery could be performed.

The family went through weeks of radiation treatment before the surgery was eventually carried out.

However, their challenges continued when another lump appeared at the site of the surgery about two weeks after the procedure. Before long, the second lump grew bigger, and a third one appeared.

It was at this stage that the family learnt that Beverly had triple-negative breast cancer, an aggressive form of breast cancer that can grow and spread quickly.

Mama Fiawotoe said the family became increasingly worried when Beverly’s condition worsened despite the treatment she had received.

She recounted that doctors at Swiss Medical Centre eventually informed them that there was little more they could do, as the cancer appeared to be spreading towards her spine and other parts of her body.

The family then decided to travel to the United States in search of further medical assistance.

However, according to her sister, they were told upon arrival that they might have had a better chance of managing the condition if they had sought treatment there earlier.

Despite the difficult news, Beverly remained hopeful that she would recover.

Her sister recalled that even after returning from the United States, the actress continued to express her faith that she would get better.

However, the actress passed away in May 2026 at the age of 42.
