Rapper Sarkodie has explained why he prefers his songs to undergo minimal or no mixing at all, stating that too many technical adjustments can take away the natural feel and original sound of a song.
According to the award-winning musician, sound engineers sometimes focus so much on making a song technically perfect that they end up losing the emotions and creativity that made it special in the first place.
Sarkodie shared his views on X after a netizen posted a video of an interview with R2Bees on the YouTube channel Nandoleaks.
In the interview, R2Bees discussed Sarkodie’s approach to music production, explaining that the rapper prefers his songs not to be heavily mixed.
They used some of his popular songs, including “You Go Kill Me” and “Baby,” which featured Mugeez, as examples of records that were not mixed.
“Sarkodie, for instance, he doesn’t like his songs over-mixed. Yeah, like midway, he doesn’t like over-mixed songs. His song You Will Kill Me, which is like one of his biggest songs and arguably one of the biggest songs to come out of Ghana, it wasn’t mixed at all,” R2Bees said.
Reacting to the comments, Sarkodie agreed with the point raised by R2Bees, explaining that excessive mixing can sometimes remove the natural qualities that make a song appealing to listeners.

According to Sarkodie, the melody, lyrics and emotions that inspire an artiste during the creative process should not be lost when a song goes through mixing.
“Most times engineers mix the feel out of the music when they get technical… sometimes just let it be if it doesn’t need much … What we heard that brought the melody or lyrics out of us shouldn’t get lost after mix,” Sarkodie noted.
