‘They don’t see me as human’ - Sarkodie recalls fan asking for selfie after car crash

Award-winning rapper Sarkodie has recounted how a fan asked to take a selfie with him moments after he was involved in a serious car accident with highlife legend Amakye Dede.

In a video shared on social media, the rapper said the incident happened a few years ago while he and Amakye Dede were travelling from Kumasi to the musician's residence in Agogo.

According to Sarkodie, Amakye Dede was seated in the front of the vehicle while he occupied the back seat when their car was involved in a head-on collision and veered into a nearby bush.

He explained that although they were travelling in a convoy, the other vehicles had fallen behind, leaving only him, Amakye Dede, the driver, and his cameraman at the scene when the accident occurred.

Recounting the aftermath, Sarkodie said 'passersby' and other drivers stopped and gathered around the crashed vehicle, but one woman’s reaction left him stunned.

“People saw the accident, but they didn’t know it was us. One girl came down from the bus and said to me, ‘Where else will I meet you again? Let me take a selfie with you.’ She didn’t ask how I was doing,” he said.

The rapper said the incident made him realise that many people see his celebrity status before recognising his humanity.

“That’s why I am saying they don’t see a human; they see Sarkodie. She had not even realised that I was hurt; that is not what was important to her,” he added.
