Nana Ama McBrown shares how late Grace Nortey made her early days in the movie industry easier
Ghanaian actress and media personality Nana Ama McBrown has paid an emotional tribute to veteran actress Grace Nortey, recalling the kindness, humility and support she received from the late actress when she was finding her feet in the movie industry.
Speaking to the media at Grace Nortey's funeral on October 31, 2026, McBrown reflected on the important role the veteran actress played in her early career, particularly when she worked as a costume assistant.
According to McBrown, she had very little knowledge of the job when she started, but Grace Nortey was among the first established actresses who welcomed her and helped her adjust to the demands of the profession.
She described the late actress as a humble and motherly figure who never allowed her celebrity status to affect the way she related to people, adding that she treated her like her own daughter and made her work easier.

“When you die, people remember the things you achieved and the lives you touched through those achievements. I benefited greatly from our mother, Grace Nortey. When I started working as a costume girl, I didn't know much about the job,” she said.
McBrown's tribute highlights the late actress's influence beyond her performances on screen, particularly her willingness to support and encourage younger people entering the entertainment industry.
“She was one of the first celebrities I became close to, but she never made me feel like she was a celebrity. She took me in like a daughter and made the work easier for me. I pray that she rests peacefully, and I pray that we also live long lives as she did,” she added.
