‘Adwoa Smart is my responsibility for the rest of my life’ – Maame Gold

Ghanaian businesswoman and philanthropist Maame Gold has opened up on why she gifted veteran actress Adwoa Smart a new apartment, explaining that she was moved by the actress' living conditions and genuine nature.

Speaking in an interview on Onua TV on November 4, 2026, Maame Gold mentioned that she had no idea about the condition of Adwoa Smart's house until she personally visited the actress' residence.

According to her, she first met the veteran actress through a mutual friend and developed a strong affection for her because of her honesty and humble personality.

Maame Gold disclosed that Adwoa Smart had never approached her to ask for financial assistance, adding that she often offered her money and other support willingly.

“Adwoa never told me about the condition of her house. She visits my house, and I like her. When she became famous, I was not in Ghana, so I did not even know her. I met her through a mutual friend, and I saw something genuine in her. That made me fall in love with her,” she said.

She further described the actress as someone who is transparent about the financial assistance she receives, recounting instances when Adwoa Smart would inform her that she had not finished spending money previously given to her.

According to Maame Gold, even when someone gave the actress money in her absence, she would make an effort to call and inform her.

“She has never asked me for money before. Anything I do for her or give her, I do willingly. Sometimes, I give her money, and she tells me she has not finished spending the money I gave her previously. Even when someone gives her money in my absence, she calls to inform me. She is a very genuine person,” she shared.

Maame Gold explained that she discovered the actress' difficult living conditions when she once drove her home and helped her carry some belongings inside.

It was during that visit that she noticed flooding had been affecting the house, prompting her to question why the actress had never told her about the situation.

She said Adwoa Smart explained that the property was a family house and that she had intended to continue managing the situation rather than seek assistance.

“I once took her home and helped her carry some things inside. That was when I realised that flooding had been disturbing my friend. I asked her why she had not told me, and she explained that it was a family house, so she intended to manage the situation,” she recounted.

The philanthropist further narrated that she subsequently decided to help the actress secure a comfortable place to live, noting that although she did not have much, providing her with accommodation and peace of mind was something she could afford to do.

She also explained that it did not sit well with her to enjoy the comfort of her own home while someone she cared about struggled with poor living conditions.

“Imagine going out with her to party or attend an event, and after we part ways, I return home to sleep comfortably while she goes back to struggle with her living conditions. I do not think that is fair,” she stated.

Maame Gold added that Adwoa Smart's reluctance to ask for favours might have prevented others from discovering her situation and offering assistance.

“Maybe if she had spoken up about her situation, someone would have also helped, but she’s always shy about asking for a favour,” she said.

She concluded by making a personal commitment to continue supporting the veteran actress for as long as she lives.

“Now I am saying this on record: she is my responsibility for the rest of my life, as long as I live,” she added.
