There is another storm of controversy surrounding Okyeame Kwame – the 2009 Artiste of the Year – over the ‘exact’ role he played in his own latest hit singly ‘faithful’.

The Rap-Doctor, as he is popularly referred to in showbiz, has found himself in the mist of emerging allegations that he actually did not sing the chorus of the said song. ‘Faithful’ is a song that talks about faithfulness in relationships. It has since its release early last month, become an instant hit.

The song now enjoys enormous patronage and reception in the country and beyond, particularly on radio, the internet and television, where its video has also become popular overnight due to its exceptionality and doubtless creativity in plot and presentation. Now fresh reports have emerged in certain musical quarters, especially in Accra that claim that Okyeame Kwame did not sing the chorus of the said song, but has unduly credited himself for that.

The reports have it that the male voice in the chorus is that of Highlife musician Kwabena Kwbena and of that of the female is Bertha Karikari of the Stars of the future fame. Somebody is yet to dispute Bertha’s version, but that of Kwame has come out of doubt, particularly when he is only known to be a consummate rapper and not a singer.

A copy of the song’s promotional CD apportions no credit to Kwabena Kwabena as the name behind the voice of the lyrics. Efforts by News-One to reach both Okyeame Kwame and Kwabena Kwabena for their comments as at press time proved unsuccessful. Whereas the former was said to be busy in the recording studio putting finishing touches to his upcoming album, ‘The Clinic’, calls to the latter’s phone did not go through.
