Multiple-award winning Ghanaian film ‘Sinking Sands’ has acquired a distribution deal with IndieFlix Studios. The studio spearheaded by Whoopi Goldberg has had the actress and comedian acting as an active advisor since early 2005. It will be distributing ‘Sinking Sands’ through all major DVD outlets and Video On Demand across the US.

The deal also includes a distribution deal with ITunes and release dates will be announced later. Meanwhile Ghanaians will also get to see ‘Sinking Sands’ on DVD before the end of the year. The feature length psychological drama tells the story of a couple, in a loving marriage that turns into one of violence and abuse when the husband becomes disfigured in a domestic accident. The project is intended to create awareness on the continuous existence of abuse among today’s households. It is an effort to show a side of defense that is proactive. It stars Ama K. Abebrese and Haitian-born model and Hollywood actor Jimmy Jean-Louis.

‘Sinking Sands’ will also be released in US theaters for a limited time through another distribution deal with a chain of art house cinemas, making it the first Ghanaian-made film to travel the US in a theatrical circuit.

The writer, Producer and Director of the film, Leila Djansi comments: “I am very happy and excited, and very thankful to no one but God for his mercies because ‘Sinking Sands’ is such a dark and disturbing film; and to secure such mainstream distribution for it is by nothing but the grace of God.”
