Sarkodie video reviewed

After Sarkodie’s “You Kill Me” video disappointed fans and music lovers, people had been keenly looking forward to seeing the video of his hit song “I’m In Love With You” which features the amazing female vocalist – Efya, ever since news hit us that a video was being shot. Thankfully Sarkodie was not to disappoint anymore, this video has no doubt been beautifully shot and concepts well executed by the director BIG O.J. Even though sometimes people like Bruno Mars and Adele choose to use an abstract form in making their love videos, these kinds of songs and their videos usually have a story line and this was carried out well in the making of “I’m In Love with you”. From set and plot through to lightning and acting – on point!

The director employed various basic and minute things yet very important in the making of the video since most people in love usually consider as romantic and lovely; for example, using a beach scene, the introduction of the reddish yellow sunset and the various choices of colours. All indoor scenes of Efya have either red, pink or velvet wine whereas Sarkodie’s scenes have dark masculine colours. What I am driving at, is the fact the director knew what he was about and what exactly he wanted as a final outcome. He understands love and gave a graphic imagery with a lot of symbolic things such as water, the sunset, birds in the air, beach houses, colours etc. The most important parts in the use of colours are the scenes where the two appear together. One would note that they are almost always in white. Now here is what white means: White is the colour of purity. Brides wear white in many countries, because white symbolizes a virgin. White means kindness. In some cultures white is worn at funerals. White is Monday's colour. Finally note this – White daisies are a symbol of loyal love. Editing was good - transitions sweet.

Who else noticed the shooting star which also looked like a burning comet at exactly 3:42secs into the video? Well that was the catch for me. The mere fact that he had that idea and repositioned it at twilight (an unusual thing since it happens during a star filled night) is commendable. It is believed the person with whom you have seen the shooting star is your soul mate, your ultimate destiny. I believe that a shooting star is like love, because it is the most beautiful, gliding across the sky, and falling to earth, showing that even the most unlikely romances are possible. A shooting star is also symbolic of a new birth and changes in your life. It is again believed that if you are with someone and you see a shooting star you are in love and that is exactly what this video is about.

I can also talk about camera control and shots. That was as done with ease. Close-up shots were mostly employed and that was perfect. With a story like this, one needs to follow them closely and the best technique is what he used. The use of the African setting at the beach adds an awesome blend with the modern designs in the home and costumes used. In a nutshell, although it’s not a “wow” video, it is a good one, and Sarkodie finally lived up to expectation.
