Ghana’s Most Beautiful (GMB) 2011 Contestants have been conferred as the Millennium Development Goal’s (MDG’s) Youth Ambassadors after a series of training workshops to create awareness to enable them support the MDG goals.
The title was conferred on six contestants from the Ashanti Region, Greater Accra Region, Central Region, Brong Ahafo Region, Volta Region, and Western Region.
The workshop which was organized by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in collaboration with African 2000, Youth Bridge Foundation and TV3, was to create a platform to support the contestants to engage in meaningful activities that would have positive impact on them beyond the competition.
It was also to develop their capacities for them to become youth ambassadors of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) and to enhance their presentation skills as youth ambassadors.
Mr. Prince Dake, Brands Executive of the Commercial Department of TV3 said the workshop was not only to engage the contestants but also to give some meaning and importance to the Ghana’s Most Beautiful pageant.
He expressed satisfaction at the performance of the ladies saying the second season of the workshop had been encouraging and successful and hoped that the next season would improve and be much better.
Mr. Dake gave the assurance that TV3 would continue to project all activities that the partnership would engage in adding that it would be ready to involve all media houses to help in achieving the MDG’s.
Mr. Seth Oteng, Executive Director of Youth Bridge Foundation, said the foundation found it important to tap into the popularity given to ladies by TV3 in order to complement government’s efforts in achieving the MDG’s.
He said the youth were the right people to channel to achieving the MDG’s and it was important to engage them and develop their potentials to contribute to the development of their families, communities and nation at large.
Ms Salomey Akua Mansah, winner of GMB 2011, expressed appreciation to the group for the opportunity given them and gave the assurance that the group would do its best to ensure that by the end of the project, more than half of the population would be well informed about the MDG’s.**
