At last, the list for the Golden Icons Academy Movie Awards is out. Prominent films from South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone and a host of others outside the Africa continent (Diaspora) have been nominated.

According to the GIAMA Awards committee, surfing through the enormous amount of movies that were submitted for screening, most especially those that were produced in the Diaspora was quite challenging to watch. However, few of the movies stood out and are worthy to be applauded and rewarded. Some of these movies include Bianca, Secret Past, The Mechanic ‘Who is the Man?’ Paparazzi, Black Money among others making it’s a clear indication that movies produced in the Diaspora, especially in the United States, continue to improve over time.

“As stated in our 2012 motto ‘Rewarding Excellence & Creativity’, the GIAMA Awards is set to continually carry the armor and legacy of superiority in recognizing noteworthy talents in the African film making industry,” said Bode Ojo the CEO of GIAMA awards.

Being the inaugural award ceremony for GIAMA, only films that were produced and/or released between January 2011 and June 2012 were considered eligible for review and nomination. The winners will be announced at a sparkling star-studded ceremony on October 20th, 2012, in Houston, TX and will be hosted by Nollywood untamed Actor Jim Iyke.
