A Magistrate court at Wenchi in Brong Ahafo has remanded Kwasi Gyan, 22, for allegedly raping an 80-year-old woman. His plea was not taken. Police Inspector A.A. Darko told the court that both Gyan and the old woman lived at Nkonsia, near Wenchi. He said on January 25, this year, the ctogenarian retired to bed but she did not close the door to her bedroom.
The following day at dawn, Gyan sneaked into her room, locked the door and forcibly had sex with her.
Inspector Darko said the woman shouted for help and Kwasi Asare, her nephew, came out and found that the door was locked. He raised an alarm and forced the door open but the accused escaped.
Inspector Darko said the woman was found helpless in the room and was taken to Wenchi Methodist Hospital where she was admitted for two days. A report was subsequently made to the police and the accused was arrested.
