Cape Coast, July 9, GNA - Joseph Nyarko, 30 a houseboy from Mankessim, who abused the trust his Madam had in him, stole an amount of 500 dollars from her, and went on a spending spree, was on Wednesday sentenced to two years imprisonment in hard labour by a circuit court at Cape Coast.

He had pleaded guilty with explanation to unlawful entry and stealing. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Samuel Oduro Kwarteng Addae, had earlier told the court that there were a series of thefts, including the theft of the money in the house where Nyarko lived with his Madam, one Mrs. Dondulf Idrissu a businesswoman. He said as a result, Mrs Idrissu engaged someone to keep watch, and that on July 2, Nyarko who had been instructed to weed the compound of the house, entered his madam's room through the window.

He was arrested and sent to the police station, and later led the police to retrieve an amount of 500,000 cedis and a CD player together with a quantity of CDs, a bicycle and a lamp-holder he had purchased with part of the money, he added. The court rejected Nyarko's explanation that he had stolen the money because he needed it to cater for his pregnant wife.
