Abraham Attah and Jacob Tremblay
"The nominees this year show that when it comes to making an impact on the big screen, size really doesn't matter," the 'Beasts of No Nation' star said while introducing the films for best live-action short.
Someone was coming up short when young actors Jacob Tremblay and Abraham Attah took the Oscar stage on Sunday night.
The 9-year-old star of Room couldn't reach the mic when he and the Beasts of No Nation teenage actor started to introduce the best live-action short category during the awards show.
Host Chris Rock then ran onto the stage with two standing blocks, giving Tremblay a much higher one.
"Thanks Chris, loved you in Madagascar!" said Tremblay, who, after jumping out of his seat to see Star Wars droids BB-8, R2-D2 and C-3PO take the stage earlier in the night, had his second on-screen fanboy moment. "He's the Zebra, he's hilarious!" he told the audience.
Rock quickly skipped off stage while singing, "I'm a good person."
Attah then pointed out, "The nominees this year show that when it comes to making an impact on the big screen, size really doesn't matter."
The pair went on to introduce the nominees — Ave Maria, Day One, Everything Will Be Okay (Alles Wird Gut), Shok and Stutterer — and named Stutterer as the winner. First-time nominees Benjamin Cleary and Serena Armitage accepted the award.
While neither actor earned an Oscar nomination, each picked up awards during Oscar season: Tremblay, a Critics' Choice award and Attah, an Independent Spirit award.
Room was nominated for four Oscars, including best picture and best actress for Brie Larson, who hugged Tremblay before heading to the stage to accept her award. On stage, Larson thanked Tremblay, calling him "my partner through this in every way possible."
The 88th Annual Academy Awards, hosted by Chris Rock, took place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and aired on ABC.
