Onga, Ghana’s market leader in food seasoning in collaboration with the Centre for National Culture and the Greater Accra Market Women Association will climax this year’s National Culture and Art Carnival with “Kpatashie” - a cook-off between selected markets in the Greater Accra Region.
The event, which is scheduled for the 1st July forms part of a bigger celebration under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.
Ghanaians from all walks of life are expected to throng the Independence Square to display the rich Ghanaian culture through music, costumes, dance and food.
The festival will see the biggest cooking contests in the country; representatives from 10 selected markets in the Greater Accra region will showcase their culinary skills with the Onga seasoning as they battle it out for a mouth watering prize.
Speaking in an interview, Marketing Officer for the Centre, Mrs Patricia Oppong Agyeman said, the idea for the whole celebration forms part of the mandate of the center, to project and market the Ghanaian culture to the outside world.
She also stated how important food is to the Ghanaian culture hence the need for the cooking contest in the celebration.
“We partnered Onga because we were looking for a brand that aligns with objective of preserving local cuisine and Onga as we all know is a fully made-in-Ghana product making it the perfect match for this celebration”, she explained.
On her part Brand Manager for Onga, Mrs Emmeline Tagoe said, “our local cuisine is never complete without Onga, in fact the different variants of Onga were carefully made with all local dishes in mind. It is not surprising that Ghanaian homes rely heavily on it when making meals for their family”. Mrs Tagoe also expressed excitement about sponsoring the cook-off.
Other activities lined up for celebration includes a carnival float with “Mama Onga”, exhibition of made in Ghana goods, food baazar and many more.
