Highlife musician, Kumi Guitar has intimated that he will be ungrateful to write off the contribution of his former manager, Mark Okraku-Mantey to his music career.

Speaking to Abrantepa on Radio Univers’ mid-morning show, Brunch2Lunch, Kumi Guitar who worked with Okraku-Mantey for four years said his working relationship with the Slip Music boss gave him the opportunity to be present at certain places he may not have had the chance to.

“I won’t say he [Okraku-Mantey] was not doing the best for me. Maybe without him, I wouldn’t have gotten to this level… I think everybody can do a bit for you but it is up to you to push. There are places I went so easily because I was under his management,” he said.

The musician further stated that Okraku-Mantey helped in building the ‘Kumi Guitar’ brand as he suggested ‘Kumi Guitar’ as his showbiz name instead of his real name ‘Nana Yaw Kumi’.

“He named me ‘Kumi Guitar’. When I met him, I was learning how to play the guitar. We met at Central University and I gave him my demos. After he agreed to work with me, he decided to add the ‘Guitar’ to ‘Kumi’. From the onset, it sounded weird but as time went on, it caught up and people loved it,” he noted.

The ‘Scriptures’ singer applauded Okraku-Mantey for also sharpening his writing skills.

Both personalities in April this year parted ways on mutual grounds. According to Okraku-Mantey, Kumi Guitar seemed not to be comfortable with his style of grooming artistes to their full potential as the singer considered it to be too slow.

Kumi Guitar is out with a single ‘Obra’ produced by Appietus.
