Viasat1 G Broadcasting Limited has been granted a sub-license to exclusively air the upcoming 2016.17 season of the English Premier League in Ghana on free-TV, making the channel the only broadcaster with such rights.

The English Premier League season kicks off on Saturday, 13th August 2016 and Viasat1 will air live matches every Saturday afternoon up to the season finale in May 2017.

In addition, Viasat1 will telecast a highlights show on Mondays at 4:00 pm which would capture all matches played during the week; and also air a pre-match analysis of upcoming games at 4:00 pm on Fridays.

Acting CEO of Viasat1 G Broadcasting, Mr. Richmond Sey, believes the new rights acquisition couldn’t have come at a better time.

“Our cherished viewers are always looking for the best form of entertainment, and this new season of the EPL promises to be very exciting’ he said.

“As we are delivering our best in content through drama series, telenovelas, and other female-skewed programmes, we are giving the football lovers something to crave every weekend, and we believe this move will give us a competitive advantage” noted Mr. Anthony Mintah Jr., Programmes Manager at Viasat1.

The English Premier League is the world's most popular domestic competition of the world's most popular sport, and sub-Saharan Africa is one of the Premier League's fastest-growing audiences, with an estimated 276 million viewers tuning in each year.

Ghana alone has grown a huge fan base across the country, which is mainly driven by successful African stars such as Yaya Toure, Michael Essien, Andre Ayew, Didier Drogba, to mention a few.

Football fanatics are encouraged to tune in to Viasat1, the only channel that will air the most prestigious football league in the world for free in Ghana, and with the best analysis.

Meanwhile, Viasat1 has also acquired the rights to broadcast the new season of NBA matches; details of which will be announced shortly.
