UK-based Ghanaian, Sammy Ankrah's new film, Divine Intelligence, has garnered an overwhelming nine nominations in eight categories for the 2016 edition of the renowned BEFFTA Awards in the UK.

The Awards, which was originally created to give recognition to the efforts of outstanding black people in the UK in Entertainment, Film, Fashion, Television and Arts, has been expanded over the years to include people of Asian origin and other ethnic minority backgrounds in the UK. The Awards also recognises international works in relevant categories.

Former notable recipients of the BEFFTA Awards include legendary BBC broadcaster, Sir Trevor Macdonald, Eastenders actress Ellen Thomas, Chelsea football legend, Didier Drogba, and some big names from the film, music and media industries in Africa. The 2016 edition of the awards will be hosted by Hollywood actor of British origin, Dr Winston George Ellis. Among the international nominees for this year’s BEFFTA Awards is Ghana’s Abraham Attah.

Sammy Ankrah’s Divine Intelligence film, described by those who have seen it as “a highly entertaining film with substance,” seemed to have won the hearts and admiration of the nominating panel of BEFFTA and has consequently been given such high level of nominations in the various categories (evidence from his Facebook posts).

A second screening of the film after its initial premiere at the Odeon Cinema in Greenwich London (which saw in attendance some high profile people including top executives of both the NDC and NPP in the UK such as NDC chairman, Mr Kofi Kwakye), took place at KICC’s The Open Door Venue in Crystal Palace, on 3rd September, 2016. After the screening, the overseer of The Open Door Venue, Pastor D Aluko, was in full admiration of the film and was literally seen mimicking some of the actions in the film to the cheers of those present.

Speaking to Rev Moses Asare, Executive Producer of the film after the screening in the presence of Femtej Media, Pastor Aluko said that having seen the film, he would strongly recommend it to all pastors who truly care about the integrity of the Gospel, to encourage all their members to make every effort to watch the film as well.

A Baptist minister, Pastor Rick Hansel, who was also present at the screening, said the film was timely and must be watched by all Christians, especially pastors, because he had personally learned something from it. He said he believed that every ‘true’ preacher of the Gospel will endorse the film.

When Progress Newspaper publisher, P Medinus asked some four lady audience why they were still stuck to their seats after the screening, they replied they had been carried away and wanted to see episode 2 of the film right there.

Special screening of the film is said to be happening again on Saturday, 24th September, 2016, at 6 p.m. at the Dominion Centre in Wood Green in London.
