Legendary Ghanaian highlife singer Paapa Yankson thought he was escaping from his sick bed to do what he does best, SING, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as he left the stage of ‘Bottles and Bands’ last Saturday with over 50,000 Ghana cedis.
During a truly charismatic performance from the 72-year-old, several individuals and corporate organisations interrupted his performance to donate money to help him seek proper medical care which has limited him to the use of a wheelchair.
Donors including uniBank, Capital Express ANFD International (suppliers of FAB ENERGY DRINKS), Ultimate CarPort, among other organisations and private persons pledged over GHC 50,000 to the ‘Okukuseku’ singer.
Mr. Yankson, who has over 15 albums, is co-founder of the famous Western Diamonds Band, and songs such as Yaaba, Wiase Mu Nsem, Show Your Love, Wo Yere Anaa Wo Maame, and Tena Menkyen; his lovely duet with Pauline Oduro, have endeared multitudes to him through all these years.
Kasapreko Company Limited and FAB energy drinks, sponsors of the event also promised three months free supply of products to the legendary singer.
Bottles and Bands 2016, organized by the Empire Entertainment, was held at the Accra Polo Grounds on Saturday November 19, consisted a beautiful open-air lounge setting during the day, and a live concert after 6 pm.
Kojo Antwi, EL, Efya, and Paapa Yankson also performed on the night.
