Misunderstanding between the two families – patrilineal and matrilineal – of the late Daasebre Dwamena over the dead body of the musician is still on.

Mother side of the deceased has reacted to plans of the paternal family to boycott the three-day final funeral rites of the highlife musician, which starts on Friday, November 25.

Zionfelix.net reported hours ago that Yaw Boateng who speaks for the paternal family has told MzGee of Hitz FM in a recent interview that his family has a funeral this weekend which prevents them from attending Daasebre’s funereal. According to him, they informed the maternal side of their unavailability from Friday, November 25 when they announced it as the burial date for the deceased but they did not change the date for the funeral.

In response to Yaw Boateng’s comment that the father side of the “Kookoko” singer will not make it to any of the three-day final funeral rites, Enoch Gyedu, who speaks for the late musician’s maternal family has told MzGee on Hitz FM that the funeral will still be held this weekend despite the boycott.

Mr. Gyedu believes that the other side of the musician’s family is peeved because the funeral is being held at Anomabo Ndasimam in the Central region. According to him, they are aware the family head has advised his people not to step foot at the funeral which begins on Friday, November 25.

He admitted that it is worrying for the patrilineal family to boycott the funeral of their relative. Enoch Gyedu quickly added that their decision not to pay their last respect to Daasebre Dwamena will not change plans made to bury him this weekend.

The maternal family’s spokesperson hinted that they have pleaded with the paternal side to forget about their misunderstanding over the dead body and attend the funeral but they have given deaf ears to their plea.

Burial date of the late was announced after a tussle over who has the right to bury Daasebre Gyamenah ended up in court.

The late musician’s maternal family had gone to court to seek an injunction to stop the paternal family in Koforidua from burying the musician on a proposed October 14 date.

The paternal family of the artiste, after the initial impasse, agreed to relinquish his remains for burial after a meeting.

But both families met and agreed that the late Daasebre Gyamenah will be buried at Anomabo Ndasimam in the Central region.

There will be Wake Keeping on November 25 followed by burial on the November 26. There will be a Thanks Giving Service on Sunday, November 27.

Daasebre Gyamenah died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra on Friday, July 29, 2016.
