Stand-up comedian and a medical doctor by profession, Amponsah Obarima Akuoko popularly known on stage as OB has said that Ghanaians are too emotional about jokes.

According to him, jokes are supposed to be universal so when he makes comment about a particular tribe or situation, emotions are not to be attached to them.

The comedian was responding to recent joke he posted on his Facebook wall concerning Ga women on how they shout whenever talking to someone.

Comedian OB posted, “If you love your ears, don’t let a Ga woman whisper into them…their whisper is louder than a home used generator..#?ProBonoAdvice.”

The comedian received some backlashes as this joke was not taken lightly by some people on social media. Host of eTV’s ‘e-on-e’, Christabel Naa Adukwei Addotey was irked by the joke and reacted to it.

She wrote, “Someone tell the supposed comedian, if he is outta jokes, it simple: looking at him, he can just check himself out in the mirror and tell us what he sees, trust me whatever he sees will be rib cracking ????????????????????#?ProBonoadvise

Realizing how what he meant to be taken as a joke turned to annoyed people, he decided to educate Ghanaians on how to react to jokes.

“Some people just didn’t understand that it was a joke, jokes are not personal, anything can be funny so it is supposed to be universal, anybody can joke about any tribe it doesn’t mean what the person said is true. The point is that when you listen to jokes and you attach your emotions to it you will lose the cost of the joke,” he told www.ghanaweb.com.
