The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Catherine Afeku, on Thursday 25 May launched the 2017 Pan African Historical Theatre Festival (PANAFEST) at Cape Coast in the Central Region.
This year’s launch coincides with the 25th anniversary of the festival.
An activity preceding the launch was a bonfire night at the Elmina Beach Resort on Wednesday 24th May. There was a walk on Thursday which began from London Bridge through the principal streets of Cape Coast and ended at Heritage House.
This year’s PANAFEST and Emancipation Day will be celebrated from 25 July to 2 August.
Activities lined up include wreath laying, welcoming of Africans in the diaspora, durbar of chiefs and queens, an expo and interfaith dialogue to highlight the roles played by religion during the slave trade. There will be performances and work in the areas of theatre, drama, music, and poetry and tours to various places of historical study and interest such as slave castle dungeons and resorts.
PANAFEST is a cultural event held in Ghana every two years for Africans and people of African descent. It was first held in 1992.
