Agona Swedru, April 14, GNA- A Circuit court at Agona Swedru presided over by Mr Robert K.K. Asaase has sentenced an ex-convict to three years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing pears.
Kofi Boadi, a farmer from Agona Odoben was convicted on his own plea on two counts of stealing and causing harm.
The Breman Asikuma District Tribunal in 1999 sentenced the accused to six months imprisonment in hard labour and a fine of 40,000 cedis for stealing.
Inspector Comfort Darko told the court that the complainant was a teacher while the accused was a farmer at Agona Odoben.
Insp Darko said on March 24, 2004, the complainant went to his cocoa farm and saw a quantity of pears, which he later realised were plugged from his farm.
The prosecutor said Barnes the accused jumped from a pear tree, pounced on the complainant and bite his hand.
Insp Darko said the accused person took the cutlass of the complainant and slashed his head and took to his heels. She said the complainant reported the matter to the police.
