Accra, April 30, GNA - The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) on Friday launched patriotic song competition to resuscitate the effort of imbuing Ghanaians to defend and uphold the tenets of the 1992 Constitution.
The competition forms part of activities marking the 4th Constitution Week being celebrated under the general theme: "National Integration Through Tolerance".
The event dubbed "Festival of Civic/Patriotic Songs," aimed at using songs to promote unity, peace and strengthening solidarity among Ghanaians. It attracted seasoned choral groups from Tema and Accra as well as the Acapella Gospel Music Quartet and The Alabaster Box.
The Alabaster Box set the stage by reminding the audience that Ghanaians are one people with a common destiny with a rendition of their hit song "Akwaaba" harmonically blended in English, Ewe, Twi and Ga. Other choral groups picked the tune set by the Alabaster Box and sang patriotic songs from the ancient to the modern.
At the end of the three-hour competition, Tema Bethel Methodist Church Junior Choir was adjudged the best, followed by the National Lotteries and Salvation Presbyterian Church Choir.
Bi-Tonic Choir, Treasurer Choir and Ghana Post Choir placed fourth, fifth and sixth in that order.
