Computer engineer remanded for fraud

Tema, May 26, GNA- A computer engineer and a driver who conspired to defraud an agent of a company using E-mail address have been remanded in custody by the Tema circuit court "B".

Jerry Chujoke the driver and Evans Borteye Ansu, computer engineer pleaded not guilty conspiracy and fraud.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Teye Martey told the court that on April 21, 2004, the complainant went to his E-mail box and had a letter addressed to him by Binco Nartey who claimed to be a South African. He said Binco stated that he wanted to go into business with the complainant.

On April 26, 2004, another letter was received in the complainant's E-mail and it was claiming 4,500 US dollars as a commitment fee for the business.

Inspector Martey said complainant again received series of phone calls that were demanding 42,000 US dollars to commence business. He said on one occasion, Jerry personally contacted the complainant with some documents to collect the 4,500 dollars. Complainant became suspicious and reported the matter to the police and the accused persons were arrested.
