Mechanic jailed 10 years for defilement

Accra, May 27, GNA - An Accra Circuit Court on Thursday sentenced a 38-year-old mechanic, Alex Odartey Lamptey to 10 years' imprisonment for defiling a nine-year-old pupil at Korle Gonno in Accra.

Police Chief Inspector Emmanuel T. Boison told the Court presided over by Mr Kwadwo Owusu that sometime in February this year, Miss Vivian Quartey, the victim's mother detected bloodstains in the victim's underwear.

Prosecution said she became agitated and confronted the victim about the bloodstains but she could not give any convincing answer. Chief Inspector Boison said the victim was taken to the hospital where a medical examination conducted proved that she had been defiled. The Prosecution said the victim upon questioning by her mother disclosed that sometime in February, when returning from school Lamptey invited her into his room and forcibly defiled her.

Chief Inspector Boison said, after the act Lamptey warned the victim not to disclose the incident to any body otherwise she would die. He said the matter was reported to the Police and the accused was arrested.
