The President of the Musicians Union of Ghana, Bice Osei Tuffour, says he does not know of any ‘One Corner’ dance.
Popularly known as Obour, the MUSIGA President says what he is aware of is the song ‘One Corner by Patapaa which took over the airwaves recently.
However, he did not know that there was a special dance attached to the song.
Obour was sharing his views on music in general and whether it was right for gospel musicians to do dances that are brought about by secular artistes.
Speaking to News-One, Obour stated that the supposedly new ‘One Corner’ dance is not anything new to happen in the music industry.
According to him, what people now call the ‘One Corner’ dance already existed long ago and is originally known as the ‘Atupa’ dance.
He emphasized that the current ‘One Corner’ dance is another version of the famous ‘Atupa’ dance but with a new name. “I don't know of any ‘One Corner’ dance; all I know is the song itself by Patapaa.”
“What people are calling One Corner dance is actually another form of the old Akan ‘Atupa’ dance that existed long ago,” he stated. Obour explained that generations after generations have devised ways of dancing Atupa, hence the ‘One Corner’ dance.
On whether it is right for a gospel musician to do dance moves initiated by a secular artiste, the MUSIGA President says there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. He is of the view that a dance is a way of expressing one’s mood by the movement of the body.
Therefore, anybody is free to perform any kind of dance to any music he or she feels is interesting.
