? Over 35,000 people, fun activities & good crowd control
AN Accra-based private radio station, JoyFM last Saturday lived up to its billing as the most influential radio station in the country when it brought together tens of thousands of people at the Aviation Social Centre, venue for its Annual Old Skuuls Re-union programme.

Close to forty thousand people thronged the centre to take part in various activities including tug of war, gari soakings competition, football gala and jama competitions.

Such was the excitement and fun that the organisers had a hard time closing the programme as the participants refused to leave the premises even after the music had stopped playing. Almost every school was represented at the event, which also attracted alumni of the various universities.

Participation was great in all the events, from the ?jama? competition, Spacefon sponsored five-a-side football competition through the tug of war and Ideal Milk ?gari soakings?, to the Starkist gari (eba) and shito. In the end the basketball competition had to be abandoned as the participants would not leave the court for the game to begin while the Afternoon Jam enjoyed very good patronage.

The event was sponsored by Nestle Ideal Milk, Guinness, Spacefon, Starkist & Protector Gold Plus.

JoyFM?s finest, DJ Black, Bola Ray, Kwesi Anim Agyei, Doreen Andoh, Sammy B and Komla Dumor, together with Abeiku Santana of JoyFM sister station Adom FM? were in control, taking turns to emcee the programmes.

This year?s event also saw great improvement in crowd management as the whole stretch of road in front of the aviation centre from the former AFGO clearing yard to the El-Wak Traffic Light was closed to traffic. However, the participants did not seem to be bothered in the least by the long walk from the designated parking areas at the El-Wak stadium and the Airport Shell area.

Most of the participants lauded the radio station for putting together a unique programme that brought together old friends from school although there were complaints about the arrangement of stands. Some suggested a change in venue to a much bigger premise to accommodate the huge numbers.

The school?s reunion is an annual event instituted by JOY FM to bring together old students of various secondary schools in Ghana to re-live their school days.

Weeks ahead of the event, representatives of the various schools took turns to display their stuff at Joy FM?s studios singing jama songs and reminiscing the old school days.

During one of such sessions, Agriculture Minister, Courage Quashigah was drawn to the studios to join old students of his alma mater, Keta Secondary School.

JoyFM has again showed that it is ?THE? radio station and still holds the accolade as the organizers & promoters of the country?s biggest outdoor & indoor events.
