Musician Nana Fynn
There has been an upsurge in the popularity of Dancehall music in Ghana in the last few years with many musicians preferring to be described as Dancehall musicians. But a veteran Highlife artiste, Nana Fynn, has declared all them all as unfit for the Dance hall tag.
According to him, no artiste in Ghana has been doing authentic Dancehall as they have been claiming.
Speaking in an interview with SVTV, Nana Fynn, who is popularly known for his award-winning ‘Me Nkoaa’ track, stated that not even the self-proclaimed Dancehall King, Shatta Wale, and the longtime Dancehall torchbearer, Samini, qualify as real Dancehall artiste.
MzVee comes closer than Shatta Wale and Samini. “The only person doing something that I can call authentic Dancehall, close is Stonebwoy and a little MzVee.” Nana Fynn stated.
Nana Fynn went on to state that though none of the Dancehall people in Ghana was his favourite, he liked ‘Come Over’, a collaboration between Stonebwoy and MzVee.
Nana Fynn further explained that though he is known as a Highlife artiste, he has had a long association with Jamaica and could speak fluent Patois when he was in primary school. He thus was in a better position make such judgements based on his experience.
Born Nana Fynn Acquah-Harrison, he burst onto the music scene in 2000 and has five successful High life albums to his credit. Some of his most popular songs include, ‘Me Nkoaa’, ‘Odo Handkerchief’, ‘Romeo’, and ‘Twe Wo Ho’. Nana Fynn won who won the 2002 Ghana Music Awards’ Highlife Song of the Year with ‘Me Nkoaa’ does not shy away from commenting on developments in the music industry.
He is on record to have criticized Sarkodie over his ‘New Guy’ track which featured American rapper, Ace Hood.
