Ghanaian actress Harriet Naa Akleh Okantey aka Aunty Bee of TV3’s ‘Efiewura’ fame, has added her name to the list of actors who think Telenovelas are major factors contributing to the collapse of the Kumawood industry.
Aunty Bee speaking to SVTV Africa stated that outside Ghana, it is difficult to find a media house with a foreign telenovela content.
"I travel outside Ghana and any media house with a foreign telenovela content doesn't change the language of the cast rather they write in English." Aunty Bee told broadcaster Evans Amewugah.
She continued to say that the local movie industry ( Kumawood) is putting some measures in place to ensure the bounce back of Kumawood.
"Our own media houses also contribute to the collapse of Kumawood. A Ghanaian would send his series to media houses and they would play the go and come tomorrow games but a foreigner would bring his content and they would embrace it happily." She bitterly added
