The host of ‘High-life Time’ on Accra 100.5FM, Oyokodehye Kofi (Eric Owusu Gyimah), who was crowned the Best High-life DJ of the Year at the 2018 DJ Awards, has celebrated the feat by making donations to three Ghanaian high-life legends.

Oyokodehye presented his award to Chief Kofi Sammy, Baffour Kyei and Teacher Kofi Boateng and also donated undisclosed sums of money as well as hampers and other items to the legends, whose songs earned him the award.

The high-life veterans, some of whom were overcome with tears, expressed delight at the unexpected magnanimity of the DJ at the donation event on Friday, 25 May 2018.

Some of them expressed sadness about their neglect by the music industry.

Baffour Kyei was not enthused about the cold shoulder given them by industry players, who, he complained, refuse to either offer them gigs or play their songs on the airwaves.

“Ghana is high-life and high-life is Ghana; when you travel outside the country and present yourself as a musician, everyone knows you are doing high-life. I have a new song and it’s a hit in Kumasi already but when you bring a song the media, people will still tell you it’s ‘adadamu’ – old songs. Even if it’s new, they will tell you it’s ‘adadamu’. That means no one will buy it, and it’s too bad, the media people should watch it”.

As part of the package for the veterans, J. L. Danquah Herbal Centre also offered them a month of free geriatric healthcare services.

Oyokodehye Kofi's ‘High-life Time’ airs on Accra100.5FM every Saturday from 12:30 PM to 3PM.
