Afro-pop artiste, Yhaa Shugah
Being a female musician is very tough and comes with its own troubles and abuse but budding Afro-pop artiste, Yhaa Shugah remains resolute as she strives to make it against all odds.
The artiste has been a victim of abuse because she doesn’t want to be sensual in her craft as a musician.
According to the artiste some record labels do not consider talent and craft anymore but are bent on signing artistes who have the urge to act as ‘bad girls.’
The artiste who is currently with Gad Records said, “I have experienced so many difficulties when it comes to sponsoring your project as a lady people want to take advantage of us and that’s the challenge I’m facing now. I have experienced three others; they wanted me to be a sensual musician.”
Originally known as Michelle Twumwaa, the artistes bounced unto the scene about two years ago when she finally decided to settle for music after receiving lots of commendations from love ones whenever she mounts the stage to perform.
Yhaa Shugah is yet to release 5 singles and is set to release and promote her new sing titled ‘Jah will make it.’ According to the musician, although she is a versatile musician, she loves to write more Afro-pop songs because people can relate to it.
She said, “Ghana music is improving because most of the artistes are now going into Afro pop, unlike the other genres. I love singing and I am versatile but I sing more Afro-pop songs than high life and dancehall. I have six songs, Never give up – Hip pop, Jah will make it - Dancehall, Lobi – High life, Me plus you - Afro-pop, Wu be Ku mi – Afro-pop.
The Afro-pop artiste disclosed that she would love to work with the music man, Kojo Antwi because she always looked up to the legend.
“I will love to work with Kojo Antwi and Kwabena Kwabena. Kojo Antwi is a legend, whenever you listen to the lyrics in his songs they feel real and inspires others, I grew up listening to the music man,” Yhaa Shugah said.
