GhOne TV news anchor Nana Aba Anamoah has condemned the minority in parliament for referring Mrs. Lydia Alhassan a "Bloody Widow".

The broadcast journalist registered her displeasure at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament for boycotting the swearing in of the newly elected Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency MP Ms Lydia Alhassan and referring her as "Bloody Widow".

She took to her Twitter page to write: "Someone sat down in the middle of the night, racked his/her brain and came up with BLOODY WIDOW?. And the Minority caucus thought ‘Oh, what a genius!’ oh Lord. NDC MPs no try for this one."

Members of Parliament on the minority side, National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Tuesday 5th February 2019 staged a walkout during the swearing-in of Lydia Alhassan, the newly elected Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.

The minority, however, displayed placards with the inscription “bloody widow”, which suggested that the minority was actually against the swearing- in of the newly elected Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, Lydia Alhassan.

Background

The host of Good Evening Ghana on Metro TV, Paul Adom Otchere, was the first broadcast journalist to publicly condemn the Minority in parliament for their highest level of disdain in welcoming Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the newly elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso West Wuogon, with placards inscribed ‘Bloody Widow’.

According to him, their reaction is of the 'dark age' where Ghana is viewed as an uncivilized country with no respect for women.

Mr Adom Otchere believes the Minority reaction was a wanton abuse for procedure. Paul Adom Otchere was of the view that walking out of parliament in registering a protest is something that is acceptable as ‘normal’ parliamentary practice, but to put out a poster to call a colleague MP ‘bloody widow’ is uncalled for.
