The debate on who originated rap music seems not to be ending soon as highlife legend Nana Kwame Ampadu has declared he is the originator of the genre.

Speaking in an interview with Onua FM‘s Christian Agyei Frimpong on AnigyeMmre, Nana Kwame Ampadu said his song ‘Ebi Te Yie’ is the first rap song, which was released 1967.

According to the veteran musician, as at the time ‘Ebi Te Yie’ was released, there was nothing like rap music in Ghana, and that he was the first musician to venture into rap.

“As far as I know, I started rap music before Gyadu Blay Ambulley in 1967. I even released ‘Kukurukukuru’ in 1990 which was my second rap music and I’m going to make all those songs available to you,” he said.

It will be recalled that Gyadu Blay Ambolley claimed to be the originator of rap music with his first rap album ‘Simigua’ which was released in 1973.
