On Friday, February 18, Alabaster Box, otherwise known as 'Ghana's leading Acappella group' and winners of the 'Best Acappella Group of the Year' (2000-2002) in Ghana will be performing in a pre-UK tour concert at the British Council at 6pm.

The concert has been dubbed 'Afroppella Night with Alabaster Box", preceding a tour to the UK to participate in a number of religious conferences, charity concerts and some workshops in schools in London, Bath and Scotland.

The two hour pre-UK tour concert will feature performances from other acappella groups namely The Kings Jubilee and The Mega Voice.

Alabaster Box is an all male gospel acappella music quartet based in Ghana. The groups members are Samuel Narku Dowuona, the leader, Gideon Allotey, bass, Horst Ayub, falsetto and Richmond Agidi, tenor.

Alabaster Box specialises in a unique kind of acappella which combines purely mouth-made sounds of African indigenous instruments with African harmonies and melodies to make their music, from this the group coined the name 'Afroppella' for their kind of music, meaning 'acappella made in Africa'.

As part of the British Council's remit in the area of arts and creativity, toward valuing creative ideas and achievements from other countries, we are proud to provide Alabaster Box this opportunity and platform to showcase their talent and promote a venture that showcases a Ghana/UK connection towards their impending tour.
