Having covered many events every weekend non-stop from 2003 to present in the US, the writer of this article has noticed certain songs always getting played at every event and the partygoers love it immensely. Especially in the summer, we do see various types of dances by women of all ages when these songs are played at picnics/parties. These songs are having an impact on Ghanaians of all generations. Some of the songs are old but still hot and some are new and about to make "soooo much noise".

This summer, these songs are going to make Ghanaians in US "freak out". They are high tempo, they are hot like fire and it has its own style of dance to it. Some of the songs have little history to it concerning the first time I heard about it in the US and the reaction from audience. I have no history with some but they are hot and "fo shizzle my nizzle" as my rap lyricist brother, Bigg Snoop Dogg aka Calvin Broadus would put it.

The song is "Araba Yaa" by Osaray Ogyaserama. Whenever people hear this particular track, they immediately get on the dance floor. Rewind my selector to the year 2004; I was at a funeral in New York and the DJ, the renowned Osei Kwame played a song and made an announcement that it was a latest track about to make some noise and is entitled "Araba Yaa". The song with heavy and catchy beats was played several times and many people nodded their heads but did not dance to it. Later on, I received a call from an old friend, Kwabena Akomeah Sakyi who happens to be the Executive Producer. Kwabena told this writer he has a new artiste in his record label, Jaksrecords and was promoting the CDs. He brought samples of the CD to be distributed to the media and the DJs.

During the 2004 New York Picnic, weddings and many events "Araba Yaa" has become a popular joint in the USA. What "kills" the audience is the introduction of the song and its catchphrase "Sepe hmm, Sepe hmm, hmm ..........," or Araba Yaa ei mese boo no aben, Woara, Woara wo sempa, Woara, Woara wo sempa". The song has a portion mixed with Ga and the Twi version.

Portion of it also travels back in memory lane when the writer was a form two student at OKESS and we would sing that song during the "INTERCO" & "SUPERZO" called "meno wo teho yi, meni wo da ho, makebo ake, makeba ake, medo fa, enti shake your bottom, alomo .........(sing me y'all)

"Araba Yaa" is hot and funky and plans are on the way for Osaray Ogyaserama to tour in the US in the future.

Furthermore, Lucky Mensah is a Highlifer, experienced, well loved and known for the hit song "Bofre nie, abaa nie," but one of his songs recently got an award for the Highlife Song of the year, "Aduu Sumo Akwadu". The song is played at any event. Like "Araba Yaa", I heard it first when the same DJ, Osei Kwame played it an outdooring event in New York. People did not take the song seriously but now they are really paying attention to its catchphrase "Opuro sumo Kwadu, Aduu sumo Mme". It is a dancehall "hotstepper".

Move on along to "Weidee osua enso menim se osua enso onuaa na me pe ....................... """". Yes the five-time Ghana Music Award song; Obour's "Konkontibaa" has become a phenomenon in the USA. It is still up there enjoying its success and it is still going to be hot in the summer.

"You May Kiss The Bride" - Boli, I got to know this song courtesy of Africanspice.com after Worcester's finest, DJ Nyce sent a mixtape for airplay. The song like Sydney's "Scenti No" is definitely going to be hot one for the summer.

The rests of the hot summer joints are;

Ahomka Womu - VIP, Atia Donko - Nana Qwame, Aaye Fe Notse - King David and last but not the least "you best believe it", "Asoborokyie" - Dr. Paa Bobo. A song by one of the pioneers of Highlife is hot after many many years.
