Asa Kweku Nkansah, a member of Palm Wine highlife group, Kwan pa, has called on Ghanaian leaders and politicians to show a bit more love for the country and work for its development rather than focus on enriching themselves.

According to Nkansah, people in leadership and authority must show a bit more sense of patriotism for the country.

The four-member singing band appeared on Class91.3FM’s Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Tuesday, 17 December 2019.

Asa said: “Sometimes, you feel the government is not doing enough and when I say government, I mean the government is not just one person; it’s made up of lots of people but sometimes you listen to some things happening on radio and you wish that: ‘Let these people show a little sense of patriotism’”.

“I’m not a politician but I’m just saying that as a citizen of Ghana, I’m talking to the leaders, the leaders who are in authority, the ones who make things happen, they should have a bit more sense of patriotism when it comes to their daily dealings, they should put Ghana first because sometimes you hear lots of things on radio, on TV and you wish these people had a bit more love for the country.

“Honestly, talking as an individual from my own corner, looking at a lot of things happening, I feel a lot of politicians are just in for the money, for the fame, but not really for the love of service of the country; that’s what I think, I think it did not start now, I think it started way back”, he observed.

He stressed: “I’m wishing and hoping that our people in office, high offices and other government outfits today, will show a bit of love for the country other than just enriching ourselves or being selfish. Let’s work for the country rather, let’s do more service for the country other than just enriching ourselves.”

The award-winning group promotes indigenous African music.

They perform with traditional instruments including the Shekere (big rattle), Seprewa (Harp-lute), Gome (square bass drum), Kpanlogo drums, the Acoustic guitar and Frikyiwa (castanet).

The group became famous for their traditional rendition of popular Christmas carols.
